Gabriel Pierné, Prélude opus 29
Ophelia Amar

The Prélude is the first of Trois Pièces op. 29 by organist and conductor Gabriel Pierné, composed in 1893. In this piece, the movement is flowing and twirling under a high-pitched and dramatic musical line.

This window pictures a familiar image in Chagall’s art: the red tumbling angel. It is full of curves and circles, probably an evocation of water.
